NGC 1579, resembling the better known Trifid Nebula, is a dusty region of star formation, about 3 light-years across. The nebula contains bright, hot, young stars, but their light is dimmed bythe large dark dust lanes in the central regions. The blue light is starlight reflected from dust clouds.
