The region near the brightest star of Scorpius, Antares, is rich with nebulosity. Antares is the bright orange star at lower right, surrounded by the nebula VdB 147, also known as the Antares Nebula. Within the glare of Antares can be seen the small globular cluster NGC 6144. A larger globular cluster is above Antares, NGC 6121, also known as Messier 4. Messier 4 lies at a distance of 7,200 light years and has an apparent magnitude of 5.6
