Earth globes : night views

Our nighttime globes have been generated using our nighttime texture map. This texture map was built using imagery from the DMSP satellite, which carries a camera sensitive enough to take pictures of clouds by moonlight. We additionally have available nightime masks, where the night lights have been rendered without any backdrop satellite imagery. This allows the nighttime lights to be optionally blended with the other globes.
