NGC 1973 lies at the top right of this image, with NGC 1975 to its left. Below them runs a dark lane of obscuring gas and dust. Below the lane is the reflection nebula NGC 1977. These three nebulae make a shape that suggests a running man. The stars within this group are part of the Orion 1d subgroup, and are the youngest members of the Orion OB1 stellar association, with ages between 2 and 4 million years old.
