NGC 2422 is an open cluster about 78 million years old, and containing about 50 stars in a region 12 light years across.The brightest star in the cluster has a spectral type B2 - a young, hot and bright star. The cluster also contains two orange giants each with a luminosity over 200 times that of our Sun. Towards the top of the image can be seen part of another open cluster, NGC 2423. The bright orange star at lower right is KQ Puppi.
