The region surrounding Orion's Belt stars is rich with nebulae. The Belt Stars are, from left to right, Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka. South of Alniltak is the emission nebula IC 434, and silhouetted against it can be seen the dark nebula B33, the Horsehead Nebula. North of the Horsehead, and left of Anitak, lies the Flame Nebula, NGC 2024. Small blue reflection nebulae, IC 426 and IC 423, can be seen towards the top of the image between Alnilam and Mintaka.. The blue reflection nebula lying close to Alnilam is NGC 1990.
