The explosive detonation of a star about 100,000 years ago has left in its wake an expanding nebula of glowing gas, and at its centre a rapidly spinning neutron star, or pulsar. The bright blue star at the top of the image is V435 Aurigae (SAO 77409), and the white star just below it is V433 Aurigae (SAO 77354). The white star at the bottom right of Simeis 147 is the variable star SAO 77322.
