Gulf Stream
Ten computer graphics sequences show the Gulf Stream as it crosses the Northern Atlantic Ocean from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic Circle. A year-long time-sequence of sea surface temperature was specially processed to enhance the warm Gulf Stream. Using digital bathymetry and 250m Satellite Imagemaps of
Europe and
North America, the viewer crosses the Atlantic underwater from Florida via the Azores to the French coast. Computer graphic effects are used to show the formation of cold "bottom water" at the ice edge off Spitzbergen and its journey around the globe as part of the thermohaline ocean circulation.
These sequences were created by Planetary Visions for a tv documentary produced by Tesche Dokumentarfilm for the German broadcaster WDR.
