Amazon Basin

Satellites have been important tools in the monitoring of deforestation across the Amazon Basin. This pair of Landsat MSS images shows the distincitve pattern of forest clearance spreading out from newly-built roads in the Brazilian state of Rondonia towards the end of the twentieth century.
